Is it the middle of the month and you’re craving some fun? Or did you last have a party in 2016 because they’re too darn expensive?

Parties should be an opportunity to spend some time with your friends and family. They shouldn’t be a drain on your precious funds.

Fear not my child, we’ve got you covered.

Here are a few  tips to make sure you can always afford to have a rocking party:

Digital Invites

Digital invites have become increasingly popular in the last few years and for good reason, the simplicity and versatility of evites make them the perfect tool for the modern day socialite.

Plus they’re cheap, quick and anyone can make one.

If you’re still unsure about digital invites let me assure you that evites for more formal events like weddings and baby showers, are all the rage, needless to say, it’s A-OK for your get together to recruit guests by means of an evite.

How to Do it:

You really don’t need to be a graphic designer to make evites, far from it.

In fact, evites give you tons of options.

You can use free sites like Paperless Post or Canva to make an awesome invite in under 10 minutes.

If that’s still too much trouble simply type up the info into a clear, legible text format and send a mass text to everyone you want to invite.

Yes, that’s a form of evite too.

The best part about an evite? They’re much harder to misplace or lose!

Cheap Party Decor

I’m not sure I’d call this one a hack as much as common sense but maybe it’s a little bit of both?

Spending a ton of money on decor for a Pinterest worthy party is just ridiculous. I’m sorry (and not sorry) but it’s just not necessary, people want to spend time with you, not fancy decor.

You can get away with a few simple decor items to make your space more festive but you really don’t need to invest too much time or money in decor.

I can guarantee you that even if you go through all of that trouble, it will likely not get you more than a comment here and there from a handful of guests.

Is it really worth it?

How to Do it:

Invade a dollar store for some essential party items like paper cups, paper plates, tablecloths (if you don’t already have) and maybe a few balloons.

Or if you want to save yourself even more trouble, order affordable party supplies, and have them delivered to your door.

Online shopping is the most amazing thing ever, don’t you think?

Ask Guests To Chip In

Instead of spending money on making all of these fancy snacks and appetizers, and a dinner, and dessert why not just swing it potluck style?

If you didn’t know, a potluck is when each guest contributes a dish to the party. That means everyone gets to enjoy different food and you don’t have to make it all!

You can also theme your food like ‘desert-only’ or ‘bring your favorite appetizers’ you would be surprised what a hit themed food can be at a party.

Never underestimate how much people love food.  And booze, you can also do BYOB (bring your own booze)

How To Do It:

This one is pretty self-explanatory really.

You can add this info to your evite.

Something simple like “This party is BYOB and we ask that guests please bring a dish of your favorite dessert.”

People will happy to contribute when they know everyone has to.

That means you just have to make a few simple party food dishes.

Low-key entertainment

Believe it or not, most adults are really chill and we’re easily entertained by good conversation (and booze) but party games can be a great icebreaker, especially if you’ve recently gotten to know new people.

Of course, that doesn’t mean spending an entire month’s salary on entertainment for your guests.

How To Do It:

Decide on a few simple party games and get your supplies.

Set out the board games you have, or ask a friend or two to bring theirs too.

Dial a Friend

Parties are a lot of work and if you’re going to DIY most of the things anyway, why not enlist a friend’s help?

You can have a pre-party prep party, but instead of party games and chilling you cook and decorate and DIY but hey, anything can be fun with friends!

How To Do It:

Text your bestie and tell her to get her butt over to your place and help.

Your bestie will help. Your bestie understands.

Label Stuff

So this a more practical tip.

Usually when you have a party, people keep misplacing their paper cups and plates. That means they take a new one every time they want to get a drink. And that means you go through a ton of frigging paper cups!

Labeling is a super simple way to avoid having to run to the shop for more supplies.

How To Do It:

Write instructions on a piece of paper and stick it to the table where the cups and plates are.

“Name your cup and plate”

And then put a few sharpies in a cup on the same table; a “Sharpie Cup”.

Don’t stress over the details.

When all is said and DIYd, you don’t want to be so stressed out or exhausted by party prep that you can barely keep your eyes open.

The point is to have fun with your people, so do that and stop stressing whether everything is perfect.

How To Do It:

Get your prep done ahead of time and then go to bed early, take a long shower, get all dressed up and have a ball with your friends and family.

Life is too stressed already, savor every little second of joy you can get your hands on.
